Providencia is safe and convenient with good restaurants, cafes, and nightlife. Costs more than other areas but you get walkability and security. Easy metro access to the rest of the city.
Las Condes is the safest and most expensive part of Santiago. High-end restaurants, luxury shopping, heavy security. Lacks local character but gives you peace of mind if that's what you need.
Bellavista has good daytime attractions - La Chascona, street art, galleries. At night it's the nightlife hub but theft is common. Visit during the day, take transportation back to safer areas after dark.
Lastarria has cafes, galleries, and bookstores. Good for daytime, sitting alone in cafes is fine. Gets unsafe after dark - go during the day then head to safer areas for evening.
Barrio Italia has international restaurants, specialty coffee, artisan shops. Safe during day and evening. Good food scene, comfortable for sitting alone in cafes.
Vitacura is the safest and most expensive neighborhood. Luxury shopping, upscale restaurants, heavy security. Very expensive and far from attractions, but extremely safe if that's your priority.
Ñuñoa is residential with young professionals and families. Safe, good local restaurants, peaceful. Cheaper than tourist areas with good security. Real Chilean life, convenient metro access.
