Valencia, Spain
Upscale central area with good transport connections. Safe and convenient but doesn't have much distinct character or nightlife. Good if you prioritize location and safety over local atmosphere.
The upscale central area - wide boulevards, modernist architecture, business district vibe. You'll see well-dressed people walking dogs, professionals going to offices, families shopping at boutiques. Located between the old town and Ruzafa with good metro connections (Xàtiva and Colón stations). Restaurants and cafes are decent quality without being outrageously priced given the location. Mix of traditional Valencian food and international options. Quieter than the party scene in Ruzafa or the tourist crowds in Ciutat Vella, which is the appeal if you want a calm base with access to everything. Eating alone is normal - people reading, working at cafes. Very safe with good lighting, police around, streets stay active into evening. The tradeoff is it doesn't have much distinct character - it's about convenience and safety more than local flavor or nightlife.
