Granada, Spain
The main tourist zone with the Cathedral, famous tapas bars, and best connectivity. Safe, well-lit, English widely spoken. Convenient but generic - doesn't have the character of other neighborhoods.
The tourist center, built around the Cathedral, Royal Chapel, Plaza Nueva, and Gran Via shopping streets. International hotels, department stores, crowds of people taking photos. During the day it's packed - tour groups with their guides holding umbrellas, students rushing around, shoppers in the reconstructed Arab market Alcaicería, everyone squeezing through narrow lanes. Plaza Nueva is where free walking tours start. Plaza Bib-Rambla has outdoor cafe seating mixing tourists and locals. Famous tapas spots like Los Diamantes and Bodegas Castañeda serve the free-tapas-with-drinks tradition. Most bars have counter seating where business people and tourists eat alone - it's normal. English is widely spoken because this area caters to international visitors. Well-lit streets, busy until late, visible police around the main squares. Safe to walk at night, though after 11pm it shifts to younger people bar hopping on Calle Elvira. The downside is it feels generic - could be the tourist center of any Spanish city. Lacks the authentic feel of Realejo or the historic character of Albaicín.

The best tapas neighborhood with a young, creative vibe. Safer and more local than the tourist center, still walkable to the main sights. Good area for eating alone at bar counters where that's the norm.
Safe, quiet residential area with students and families. Good for budget accommodation and authentic local life, but you'll travel to other neighborhoods for dining, nightlife, and sights.
The most scenic part of Granada with Moorish architecture and Alhambra views. Go during the day when it's busy. At night, the dark narrow streets in the residential areas aren't worth the risk - take the minibus instead.
