Details

Kazimierz used to be the Jewish Quarter and still has synagogues and historical buildings mixed in with the bars and cafes. During the day it has a faded, historical feel. At night it becomes the nightlife area - bars stay open until 4am on weekends. Plac Nowy is the center where you'll find food stalls selling zapiekanki (Polish pizza bread) from an old fish market building. The cafe scene draws students and artists - lots of places with books on the walls where sitting alone is normal. It's about 15 minutes walking from Old Town. Nightlife spots like Alchemia have a candlelit, antique furniture vibe. Less touristy than Old Town but busier than a residential neighborhood.
