Cebu City, Philippines
Where expat families and locals actually live - suburban, safe, cheaper than tourist areas. Good for longer stays if you want local life, but you'll taxi everywhere since it's residential.
Residential area between Cebu City and Mandaue where expat families and long-term residents actually live. Tree-lined streets, gated communities, 24/7 security in compounds. You'll see families walking dogs, kids in school uniforms, corner stores with everyday items - this is where Cebuanos live, not where they take tourists. Shopping centers include Gaisano Country Mall and Banilad Town Centre with cafes, restaurants, supermarkets. English in shops and restaurants but not as universal as IT Park. Safe during the day and evening in commercial areas, residential streets get quiet after dark. Good for longer stays or local experience, but you'll need taxis for attractions and nightlife. Trade-off is lower prices than tourist zones.

Beach resort island 20 minutes from the city. Resort areas are safe with private security but you're in a bubble - limited transport and not much outside the resort zones. Good for beach time, not for exploring.
IT Park runs 24/7 on call center hours with constant security presence and lighting. It's safe and English-speaking but pricey and doesn't feel particularly Filipino - more like a generic tech district.
The upscale commercial district with Ayala mall, international restaurants, and business hotels. Very safe day and night, everyone speaks English, but expensive and feels like generic Asian mall districts everywhere.
