Casablanca, Morocco
Authentic Moroccan market culture and cheap food, but significant safety issues. Visit only during morning/early afternoon (9am-2pm) when Tourist Police are around. High pickpocketing risk and street harassment. Leave well before sunset.
Casablanca's historic center with narrow winding streets, traditional souks, and centuries-old market chaos. During daylight, vendors sell spices, traditional clothing, fresh produce, and handicrafts while tagines cook. Small restaurants have cheap sandwiches and fresh juices for budget travelers. Shops sell textiles, pottery, and traditional goods. But timing matters - the shift from day to night is dramatic, making this daytime-only. Tourist Police are visible during peak hours and can help. The area is known for pickpocketing even during the day, so keep your phone and wallet in a crossbody bag against your body. Once the sun starts setting around 6pm, vendors pack up fast, police presence drops, and the poorly lit narrow streets empty out. Even locals from other parts of Casablanca avoid it after dark. Morning (9am-1pm) is the best time when markets are active and it feels safest.

Commercial district with cafes, restaurants, and a young professional crowd. Safe during the day with good infrastructure, though street harassment happens. Works well if you want modern amenities in a local neighborhood rather than a tourist area.
The most affluent area with luxury hotels, upscale restaurants, and the best safety. Expensive and lacks local character, but if you prioritize security and comfort over cultural authenticity, it delivers.
Creative district with art galleries, trendy cafes, and international restaurants. Good safety with more character than Anfa but less chaos than traditional areas. Works if you want a creative, cosmopolitan vibe.
