Details

Roppongi works two different ways. During the day it's art museums, embassies, offices - international and safe. At night it's the party district with clubs open until dawn and a rougher crowd. Be more careful here than other Tokyo areas at night. Aggressive touts try to drag you into overpriced bars. Drink spiking has happened enough that the US Embassy put out warnings. If you go out, stick to known places like big clubs or hotel bars. Never take drinks from strangers or follow street promoters. Daytime Roppongi around Tokyo Midtown and Roppongi Hills has museums like the Mori Art Museum, luxury shopping, decent restaurants - that's the version worth seeing. For nightlife, Shibuya or Shimokitazawa are safer bets. Lots of English because it's international, but that also brings sketchy people you don't see in other Tokyo neighborhoods.
