Mumbai, India
Business district with museums, galleries, and work-friendly cafes. Safe during office hours, dead after 7 PM. Daytime destination.
Fort is South Mumbai's business district, named after the old Fort George. Kala Ghoda is the artsy part with galleries and cafes. Weekdays you'll see office workers in suits rushing between banks and corporate buildings. CST railway station sits there with its Victorian Gothic look. Kala Ghoda has the Jehangir Art Gallery and cafes like Kala Ghoda Café and Bombay Coffee House where sitting with a laptop is normal. Business district means English speakers. During work hours (9 AM-7 PM) it's safe - police and office workers everywhere. After 7 PM people leave for home and the area empties fast. Some side streets have poor lighting at night, so stick to main roads. Museums and galleries close by 6-7 PM. This is a daytime place. Gateway of India is 15 minutes on foot. The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival happens in February.

Mumbai's upscale neighborhood with restaurants, cafes, and a cosmopolitan feel. Safe and good for solo dining, but expensive and spread out.
The main tourist area with Gateway of India, international restaurants, and markets. Police presence and English speakers make it easier, though you'll pay tourist prices and deal with crowded streets.
Beach area known for street food. Safe during day and early evening with families around, empty after 9 PM. More about beach and eating than nightlife.
