Wangfujing is Beijing's main shopping street in Dongcheng District. Safe and busy with constant police presence, well-lit streets, and shoppers from morning to late evening. The pedestrian area has big shopping malls like Oriental Plaza and Xindongan Plaza, plus some cafes and teahouses in side streets. Staff in major venues speak English since this is a major tourist zone. Women shopping and eating alone are common. The street is safe anytime but feels very commercial and touristy. Prices are higher than local areas - you're paying for international-standard service. The famous Wangfujing Snack Street closed. Works as a base if you want maximum convenience and don't mind the tourist vibe.
