Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Real neighborhood built around a local market. Has trendy cafes that digital nomads like. Less English than tourist areas. Quiet at night. Good if you want authentic feel without being completely isolated.
Built around Toul Tom Poung Market, where you'll find handicrafts, clothing, and what locals claim is the city's best kuyteav (noodle soup). The market runs roughly 7am-6pm and takes QR payments. Side streets around the market have trendy cafes that attract digital nomads. Mr. Piccolo serves good coffee on a quiet lane. This feels more like a real neighborhood than the Riverside - you'll see Cambodians doing daily errands. English is less common than BKK1, though tourist-focused market vendors can communicate. Safe during the day but gets quiet after dark when shops close. Not much nightlife. Eating alone at noodle shops and cafes is normal since locals do it. Lucky Market and Angkor Market supermarkets nearby if you're staying longer.

The expat district with international restaurants and trendy cafes. Safest area with English everywhere, but more expensive and less authentically Cambodian.
Main tourist strip with historic sites and river views. Good during the day, but has the city's highest petty crime rate after dark. Use tuk-tuks at night.
