Details

Elizabeth Street runs through North Hobart with restaurants doing Japanese, Mexican, Vietnamese, whatever. This is where locals eat and drink, not tourists. You'll see people eating alone at counters with books or phones - completely normal here, not awkward. The strip stays busy until 11pm most nights with people moving between bars and restaurants. Good lighting, regular foot traffic. Behind Elizabeth Street it's residential - young professionals and university students, quiet and safe. Republic Bar has live music nightly. The Winston and Bar Wa Izakaya fill up after work. Less polished than the waterfront but more actual Hobart.
